Bacon {the birthday bulldog}

September 28, 2010

I promise you, I’m not a crazy dog lady.
I just happen to have one of THE most amazing dogs.
My most amazing french bulldog Bacon turns 4 today. So what do I do? I insist on making my dog wear a hat he clearly did not care for. Bacon’s so amazing that he lets me do this… and tolerates it just long enough for me to get my shot. :)

His cooperation does not go unnoticed. This afternoon, when I realized it was his birthday, I called the brand spankin’ new H.E.B. (grocery store) in Burleson to find out if they served single cupcakes. They said they did, and I asked what all they had that didn’t have chocolate… and I let it slip.
“It’s my dog’s birthday.”

The incredibly friendly young lady on the other end went and checked out what they had left for the day and came back and said the only non-chocolate containing cupcake they had was carrotcake. I was so excited I said “Oh! He loves carrots!” (again… I shouldn’t be this nerdy to strangers who don’t already love me unconditionally.. I say the weirdest things!). The clerk proceeded to ask me how many I needed, and she would be happy to put them aside for me!

Hats off to you, H.E.B. Bakery and the young lady who helped me this afternoon. Your cupcake was much prettier before I took forever getting it home. But mmm, it was good. (After all, I did have to QC test it).

Happy Birthday, Bacon. You really are the coolest dog ever, and I can’t imagine life without you.

So the week before last, I spent my last days at my day job. That’s right. I quit! Great company, and I had the single most amazing boss ever (many thanks to Carol for everything she did for me).. but I felt as though it was time for me to pursue this passion a little bit more aggressively. I was off all last week, and I pretty much made a point to slack off the entire week. Mission accomplished.

With that being said, there’s tons to catch up on, and a LOT of blog posts coming your way! But I’m still getting some things organized, so don’t count on a flood of updates today.

I did, however, want to quickly share pics from this weekend.
Here’s a little bit of Bacon…

And the adorable Fiona Porkchop…

And before you think “Fiona’s just as great of a model as Bacon!”.. think again. This is one of the only great shots out of 2 dozen.. and that’s because thankfully one of my neighbors was grilling and she stopped to sniff. The rest of the shots came out like this:

So I’m off to organize, have a few errands to run, some emails to reply to… some happiness to follow.

:: Sunday, Funday ::

June 27, 2010

I woke up at 6:15 this morning, amped up and ready to shoot again! I got to hang out with Kacey, Maddie, and Punkrock Princess-Styled Tera for a fun outdoors shoot filled with sprinkles, cupcakes, and tutus! I’ll blog all about it tonight and I’ll add a few sneak peeks!

For now, these are a few shots I got of Bacon yesterday on our little road trip!

Warning: The picture of the day is awful, technically. It will not inspire anyone, nor is it winning any prizes. It’s probably one of the worst pictures I’ve ever taken. But it made me laugh so hard that I couldn’t help it; I had to share.

Please allow me to give you the back story.

I’ve had the most uninspiring day today. It could possibly be from the insanely awful heavy duty retainer I have to wear when I’m not at work. It’s no headgear – in fact, it’s quite small. But it’s squeezing my teeth together and driving me insane!

So at first I thought “Well I should take a picture of what’s on my mind… my teeth! Oh! Self Portrait Time!”
So I got all dolled up, even teased my hair a little bit (Pentecostal Poof in the house… although I’m not Pentecostal). Well I took too long, all the good light outside was gone, and all the pictures I took inside looked like poop. Not only that, but I have an incredibly awkward smile right now. I seriously need to sit in front of the mirror and figure out how to smile, sans the metal in my mouth.

So I start taking pics of The Fat One, Reese. She’s being a moody model, only sticking her rear to the camera… or in some cases, mad dogging the camera (erm glaring). So my hero of a husband suggests letting Reese play in her food, because after all, food is her thaaaaang (not just thing; thaaaaang).

So after I tipped the food over, she was in heaven.

Well Bacon wanted in on the action.

I happened to snap this picture right before she started slapping him in his face with her declawed paw, REPEATEDLY, while kitty cat cussing… sending my little french bulldog to hide behind me & the camera. Didn’t even realize I photographed the calm before the storm until I stumbled upon it.
And after I finally stopped laughing, I decided it was time to blog.

Goodnight all <3

I’m a huge believer in working smarter not harder… well when it comes to marketing my photography business, I somehow worked easier, but not necessarily smarter. The scorpio in me tends to have a thing for instant gratification.

So when I finish a session and I post sneak peeks, I will post them on Facebook for a number of reasons: it’s easier/quicker; more people are checking out FB these days; and I almost immediately get comments on my work. With the blog, however, you have to do a lot more; and I’ve been leaving that out of my workflow – which is nutty! So I’m going to start with a quick recap of what in the heck I’ve been doing (for all of you who aren’t following me on http://facebook.com/kasidaine).

AND as a promise to myself (as well as those amazing individuals who check my blog vs FB), I’m going to issue a challenge to myself. At least for a month, I want to snap 1 picture a day (whatever my heart desires) and post to the blog the same day. It’s going to be a great exercise for me to get used to my blog, and I may even become better friends with it.

So… here you go. This is what I’ve been up to:

Had a Rockstar Senior Session with the amazing Cheyenne:

Had 2 maternity sessions: Lorraine; and Laura (joined with hubby Kyle).. these haute mamas-to-be were a pleasure to work with:
Lorraine

Laura & Kyle:

Took some time out to take some pics of a couple of my amazing loved ones (one you may recognize from the banner, eh):

Best Sister Ever

And who would know I’d have a thing for photographing families with dogs?! I love animals, and since I only have furbabies, I understand wanting to include our 4 legged family members in a family portrait session!
I introduce the Foster Family:

And the always fun Whalen Family:

I also booked an upcoming wedding and as part of the wedding package, Jacquelyne & Austin had an engagement session (or as I like to call them: Boy Meets Girl Session):

I also lost my mind for a moment and let 2 of the cutest kids go wild in a candy store! Here’s to Rory & Chase!

Let’s not forget my first successful live band shoot. I never in a million years thought I would be as lucky as I am to be able to photograph the local musicians who have more talent in their right pinky than I’ll ever have. Music has always been a passion, but it’s not my top talent. It’s not even in my top 25. Heck, I would make a better act balancing a pitcher full of beer on my head, before I could make a living as a musician. So imagine my spaztom (new Kasi’ism… write it down people) when I was able to capture these shots of one of THE most talented acts in DFW, Turbid North:

By the way.. Turbid North is having their CD release party Saturday, July 17th at the Ridglea Theater in Fort Worth. Come check them out. They’re not the standard sound of metal… they’re more of a Metal Symphony. And they’re amazing dudes, as well.

I also had a BLAST shooting the local band Burndown in the rain in downtown Fort Worth. Burndown hails out of Graham, TX but you can catch them playing here in the DFW area. Burndown is more of a union of metal, southern rock, blues, and soul. I’ve known JD for years from his work with his prior band, and was seriously psyched when they asked if I would do their promo pictures.

Burndown will be playing in Arlington at Pitchers (I think it’s off of Division?) on July 30th… check them out!!

And of course, I can’t end this post without a picture of the most emo dog ever. After all, everyone loves Bacon.
